Museum Intensive programme is a series of focused training programmes that address professional capacity-building needs within Sri Lanka’s cultural sector. It targets cultural sector professionals working in public and private art organisations, who work with collections of art and/or exhibition programmes.
The inaugural Museum Intensive took place in October 2022, and looked at the subject of Audience Engagement, which has become one of the most significant areas of debate in the global cultural sector.
The training programme was designed to help participants become more familiar with common themes and current debates about audience engagement in order to help organisations they are affiliated with to make long-term commitments that enhance visitor experience, increase audiences, and build a greater public connection to the inspiring work they do.
The MMCA Sri Lanka worked in partnership with the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, and the Reinwardt Academy at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, to deliver the first Museum Intensive which was generously supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka.

The second edition of the Museum Intensive, on Paper and Photography Conservation was conducted in June 2024.
Developed in close partnership with World Monuments Fund, the workshop was conducted by Dr Lois Rowe, Principal, City & Guilds of London Art School, and Nicola Walker, Senior Conservator, Paper & Photography, National Trust, UK, and Tutor on the Book and Paper Conservation course, City & Guilds of London Art School.
This one-day workshop was aimed at professionals who have an entry level understanding of Paper and Photography conservation. It was structured to provide an introduction to caring for paper-based materials and agents of deterioration that affect paper. The workshop also covered handling, storage, and types of treatments, whilst demonstrations on actual paper and photographic samples were also part of the workshop activities.

In March 2025, the MMCA Sri Lanka conducted the third edition of its Museum Intensive which focused on Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and the cleaning and storage of archival material.
