Artist Abdul Halik Azeez talks to Chief Curator Sharmini Pereira about his ‘Lotus Power’ series and his focus on documenting urban development in Colombo using photography. His work ‘Lotus Power V’ is on display at the museum throughout the six months of ‘Encounters.’
Abdul Halik Azeez was born in 1985 in Colombo. As a new media artist, his work draws from dialogues informed by contemporary urgencies that differ with national, political and social histories, maintaining a primary interest in the post-war transformations and upheavals in Sri Lanka. Halik has an educational background in journalism, economics, and linguistics. He has held two solo exhibitions and participated in group shows and festivals locally and internationally.
