‘Alai: Recollections of Artistic Collaboration’

Gallery Talk A. Jesurasa
09 February 2020–11.30am

Editor and writer A. Jesurasa talks about ‘Alai’, the magazine he founded in 1975. Jesurasa was born in Jaffna in 1946, and has been involved with the Jaffna Film Association since 1979. Interested in literature and films since his schooldays, he became acquainted with foreign language films, art, photography and modern drama, while working in Colombo from 1967 to 1970. In 1975, Jesurasa founded ‘Alai’ magazine with three friends, and went on to publish the 25th to 35th editions of the magazine by himself. He has published nine books to date, including short stories, poetry, translated poems, columns, critiques and cinematic essays.

With special thanks to A. Jesurasa, Shiyalni Janarthanan and Imaad Majeed.
