‘Living Sculpture’ is a performance that took place in 2004 at the Gampaha train station in Sri Lanka. The artist stood perfectly still in the middle of a crowd of commuters, wearing a length of cloth wrapped in cocoon-like fashion around her body, constraining her movement yet attracting attention. During the performance, she did not interact or engage with her environment but was instead the object of observation and curiosity. Further performances were planned but could not take place due to the security situation imposed by the civil war in Sri Lanka. Conceived in 2004, these performances were finally made in 2009.
